SCOTT SONJU
President, Neltex Sports
President, Dallas Jackals

Scott Sonju is the President of Neltex Sports, a growing company that develops, owns, and/or operates various sports related businesses.  In addition, Scott serves as President of the Dallas Jackals, an expansion team of Major League Rugby, co-owned by Neltex and the Texas Rangers.

In February 2018, Scott facilitated an historic partnership with the China Baseball Association whereby the Chinese National Baseball team become the roster of the Texas AirHogs, one of the independent professional baseball teams owned by Neltex Sports.  This was the first time that a National Team has played a season as part of any professional league in the United States.

Prior to Neltex Sports, Scott served as President, General Manager, and co-Owner of the Frisco RoughRiders (Double A – Texas Rangers), one of the most successful operations in minor league baseball history.  The RoughRiders were named league “Organization of the Year” in 2005 and 2010 and in 2007 received Baseball America’s top accolade, the Bob Freitas Award.  During Scott’s tenure, the RoughRiders led all 30 Double-A teams in attendance for 12 consecutive seasons.

The RoughRiders have 55 full-time employees (excluding players and coaches), 250 seasonal team members, and are known for their top-notch customer service, unique marketing, creative promotions, commitment to community, and leadership development. In fact, during Scott’s presidency the RoughRiders launched more people into senior executive positions in the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and MiLB than any minor league team in the country.

Scott helped Dr Pepper Ballpark to be recognized as one of the best minor league ballparks in the United States. It is known for its lively atmosphere, unique architecture, friendly staff, cleanliness, a gigantic HD Videoboard, 320’ of field level LEDs, and it is the only stadium in the world with its own 360 feet long Lazy River!

Immediately prior to joining the RoughRiders front office, Scott earned his MBA at Northwestern’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management, where he quadruple majored.  He also earned a History degree from Texas A&M University.

For five years Scott helped run a historic family resort, CAMP-of-the-WOODS, in Upstate New York.  While there he founded the LIFT Program, a 501(c)3 leadership development program for gap year students.  Scott started his career at the Dallas Mavericks where he worked in the ticket sales department for two years.

Scott likes to be involved in the community and over the years has served on multiple boards, including the Collin County Business Alliance, Chosen Child Adoption Services, National Sports Marketing Network (NSMN), the Frisco RoughRiders Foundation, and the Dallas Jackals Foundation. Scott is also an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University, where he teaches a masters level Sport Sponsorship course.  Scott is an experienced public speaker and emcee and enjoys working with various companies (both sports and non-sports) to help them maximize their potential.

A two-time selection for the Dallas Business Journal “40 Under Forty,” Scott also was named Texas League Executive of the Year in 2014.  Scott loves to read, climb mountains, ski, travel, teach, and create family entertainment opportunities. The biggest impact on his life is his father Norm, the founding President & General Manager of the Dallas Mavericks.

Scott and Amy have been married for 25 years and they have four children.
